The Big Read is designed to unite communities in reading and embracing literature. In collaboration with its grant partners, Opera North will celebrate the poems, and life, of Emily Dickinson as they are expressed in songs, spoken and written word poetry, and performance art.
Starting February 7, 2009 and continuing through the end of March, the Upper Valley will experience poetry readings, afternoon teas, operatic singing by a talented performer, chamber music and a wonderful production of William Luce’s The Belle of Amherst.
Do not miss the opportunity to walk around with a poem in your pocket and visit local businesses that are participating in The Big Read. We will be announcing which businesses are joining us in our celebration of Emily Dickinson and offering discounts, and a forum for recitation of your chosen poem, in their establishments. Look for the chance to spend some time baking the recipes that made Emily famous locally. Most importantly, please join us in this opportunity to honor the great literature of one of New England’s daughters, Emily Dickinson.
