Scott Ramsay
Sir Edgardo di Ravenswood

Praised by Anthony Tommasini of the New York Times for his "impressive ... bright-voiced tenor," Scott Ramsay is highly regarded by Opera companies and Symphony Orchestras across North America and abroad. Following his portrayal of Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, under the baton of Jesús López-Cobos at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Chicago Sun-Times proclaimed "He brought a passionate intensity to the role that matched the fire of Dessay's riveting Lucia." His European debut in the same role quickly followed to great acclaim at the Dublin Int'l Opera Festival.

DongWon Kim

Baritone DongWon Kim has performed extensively in Italy, as well as his native Korea. After a sensational European debut as Valentin in Faust in Treviso under Peter Maag, he spent three years as a member of the National Opera of Korea, where he sang Germont in La Traviata, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, the title role of Rigoletto, Marcello in La bohème, Escamillo in Carmen, and Belcore in L'elisir d'amore. He has also been welcomed by the operas of Parma and Milan. Now residing in the United States, he scored a triumph as Obrazzano opposite contralto Ewa Podles in the Opera Boston production of Rossini's Tancredi.

Kathleen Kim

Since her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2007, Korean soprano Kathleen Kim has been the subject of both glowing reviews and intense international interest. Kathleen has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in High Definition Broadcasts as Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann, conducted by James Levine, as Oscar in A Masked Ball, conducted by Kirill Petrenko, as Madame Mao in Nixon in China, directed by Peter Sellars and conducted by John Adams, and as Zerbinetta in Ariadne on Naxos, conducted by Fabio Luisi.

Soprano Kathleen Kim garnered raves at the Metropolitan Opera as Olympia in Tales of Hoffmann and Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, and her concert performance was equally alluring. Kim's exquisite high notes brought "Dulcissime" to a rapturous conclusion, while her silvery tone and masterful legato phrasing lent a serene sheen to both "Amor volat undique" and "In trutina." Donizetti's masterpiece, Lucia di Lammermoor, will be set at the end of the American Civil War.

The long clash between North and South has left much of the country devastated — both the land and its people. Confederate Southerners live in fear of their future as hostages to the Union North and many refuse to give up the fight. Scores of men have been lost, and those who do make it home are demoralized and damaged. The women have suffered shortages and disease on the home front, and now any young woman of note may be married off to save the family name and rebuild the family fortune. For the traumatized people of Richmond, VA, having survived daily detonations and the burning of their beloved city, does true love even have a place? How can marrying for love be tolerated when plain survival is at stake?

This new ON production is not to be missed.
