Opera North's Cinderella is great fun
By Jim Lowe Times Argus and The Rutland Herald
LEBANON, N.H. - It might well have been a Neil Simon comedy, so many people were laughing out loud, enthusiastically, even guffawing. But it was opera.
Opera North opened a hilarious production of Rossini's "Cinderella," or "La Cenerentola," Friday at the Lebanon Opera House, that was beautifully sung and imaginatively staged as well. |

Opera North's Marriage of Figaro Is a Glittering Gem
By Nicola Smith - Valley News
... In this current production, directed by Matthew Shell, the comedy is front and center because of the overall strength of the ensemble. In particular, my attention shifted to the...exuberant, witty Susanna, who is brought to life in an ebullient performance by soprano Anne-Carolyn Bird; and to Figaro, sung with flair by David Cushing.
Bird is a gifted singer and a gifted actress. She inhabits the role of Susanna with effortless charm. Not all opera singers are good actors, but Bird is. She commits fully to the part, even in the smallest of gestures of her hands or fingers. With a fluid, lyrical soprano, Bird sings both top and low notes with ease and confidence... She is well-matched by Cushing, who brings out Figaro's robust virility in an equally robust bass-baritone. |
