The King and I Dance Auditions
Audition Information
Opera North is seeking ballet dancers for its Summer 2012 production of The King and I. Dancers must be intermediate / advanced students or performers between the ages of 12 and 29. Both male and female dancers should apply.
Auditions will take place on Sunday, March 4, 2012, from 12:00 – 2:30 PM (suggested arrival time 11:45 AM). To sign up, email events@operanorth.org.
Auditions will be held at the Lebanon Ballet School (22 Hanover St., Lebanon, NH). Please park in the Hanover Street lot behind the Citizen's Bank building.
The audition will be in two segments (all dancers must attend both):

An abbreviated ballet class taught by Lebanon Ballet School's Linda Copp with barre work, center work, and traveling

A choreography session with The King and I choreographer Jesse Factor
NOTE: Every dancer must sign a liability waiver before he or she can audition. If a dancer is under 18, the form must be signed by a parent or guardian.
Casting Information
Dancers who are selected will perform in the "Small House of Uncle Thomas" ballet in Act II of The King and I. Principal roles include Eliza, Uncle Thomas, Topsy, Eva, Simon Legree, and George. Several secondary roles are also available. Dancers may also be featured in solo and ensemble roles throughout the production.
Rehearsal and Performance Information
Dancers will be expected to:

Attend rehearsals from July 11- August 2, 2012 at the Lebanon Ballet School and the Lebanon Opera House. Exact rehearsal schedule TBA.

Perform in the 5 scheduled performances — August 3 (Friday), 8 (Wednesday), 11 (Saturday), 16 - Matinee (Thursday), and 17 (Friday), 2012 — and hold the dates of Sunday, August 12 and Sunday, August 19 available for possible
additional performances. Evening performances begin at 7:30 and Matinees take place at 2:00 pm.
Thanks to a generous donation from a sponsor, dancers will have the opportunity to perform under the direction of Martha Graham choreographer Jesse Factor, and will
also be given free classes and training at the Lebanon Ballet School throughout the
rehearsal process.
Additional Information
All participating dancers will receive two free tickets to opening night (August 3, 2012). |
